Nadler 1998 and Now | Victor Takacs

Nadler in 1998 and Nadler now are two different people.In 1998 the Department of Justice released to the Congress Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr’s report on the investigation into the misdeeds of President Clinton. Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) was adamant at that time that the report not be released to the public, because it contained sensitive 6(e) grand jury information and testimony. Here is what Mr. Nadler said at the time:

Democrats in the Congress were upset that Starr’s report was not kept under wraps. Therefore they passed legislation that eliminated the Independent Counsel statute and replaced it with a new Special Counsel statute. This is the statute under which the Trump-Russia investigation was conducted. It states that any investigation done by a special counsel calls for the Attorney General to be the ultimate decision maker when it comes to whether or not the Congress and/or the American people will see special counsel investigative reports.
