Panetta was fine with endless conflict when it was his team’s turn to manage it. Now that it’s not, he’s on CNN doing the elder-statesman routine about how “forever wars do not end well.” No shit, Leon. You were in the room when a lot of them got prolonged.

He was responsible for the DIG’s investigations into COVID origins, Havana Syndrome, and Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP). He speaks Mandarin and Arabic and has earned the Director of National Intelligence Award and CIA’s Intelligence Medal of Merit. He retired from the CIA on 30 June 2026.
